Nith has had a huge mass in his lower leg and foot for a number of years. The doctor in his hometown gave him some painkillers and told him that there was nothing that they could do.
But recently, Nith sought a second opinion. Doctors noticed right away that Nith has dark pigmented spots on the skin. These are early signs of a congenital condition called neurofibromatosis, in which large masses grow by nerves in the body. While he’s not in pain now, continuing to walk on this leg could cause future problems with mobility, and the mass could continue to grow.
Nith is 18 and lives in a rural area where he and his parents are rice farmers. He likes watching sports such as boxing and soccer. If his condition goes untreated, it will severely limit the activities that he’s able to do.
For $300, Nith will have the mass in his leg and foot removed. This will significantly increase his quality of life and prevent his condition from becoming a lifelong disability.
