Katwizere is a midwife at a clinic in Uganda. She is a married mother to five children, with the oldest having finished senior six schooling and all the rest are still studying in both primary and secondary levels. Her husband is a small-scale farmer.
Three years ago, Katwizere began to experience troubling symptoms, including difficulty in breathing and swallowing, chest congestion and heart palpitations. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Katwizere receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on March 17th at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money.
Katwizere says “I hope my life will go back to normal after I have received surgery.”
