Ly Seang is a six-year-old first grader from Cambodia, where she lives in a rural village with her parents and her newborn baby brother. Her dream is to become a nurse when she grows up. Ly Seang was born with a mass on her right ear. The mass has begun to cause her embarrassment and makes her uncomfortable when meeting new people. Ly Seang traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On May 2nd, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will remove the mass. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is seeking your help to raise $273 to fund this procedure. After this procedure, Ly Seang should live more comfortably and happily. Ly Seang's father said: "I just want my daughter to feel happy and not worry anymore."

Beatrice is a one-month-old baby from Kenya. She is the youngest in a family of nine children. Due to the ongoing rain shortage, the parents have had to go out of their way to do casual jobs to provide for the family. The family has no insurance and cannot raise the required funds for her surgery. Beatrice was born at home, and immediately, her mother noticed she had swelling on her back. Referred by a friend to BethanyKids, her family traveled for two days and brought her in for an examination. Beatrice was born with spina bifida, a type of neural tube defect in which the spine does not properly close around the spinal cord. Without treatment, Beatrice is at risk of lower-limb paralysis, infection of the exposed nervous tissue, development of tethered cord syndrome, and possible developmental delays. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,151 to cover the cost of Beatrice's spina bifida closure surgery. The procedure is scheduled to take place on March 8th. This procedure will hopefully spare Beatrice from the risks associated with her condition, allowing her to grow and develop along a healthy trajectory. Beatrice’s mother says, “I was confused when I first saw the condition my child has, and I did not know what to do. I’m really looking forward to her surgery.”

Boran is a grandmother from Phnom Penh. She has two sons and three grandchildren. She lives with her oldest sister, and they have recently retired from selling food in the local market. Boran enjoys cooking and visiting her local pagoda. About one year ago, Boran developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her blurry vision, sensitivity to light, and tearing. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, thus she is unable to travel on her own. When Boran learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On February 13th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and implant a new lens in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure. She said, "I hope after surgery I can see well again and go places on my own."
