Lydia is a 47-year-old woman and the mother of four children (three daughters and one son). One of her daughters is married, while her other children are still in school. Lydia shared that she was unable to continue her own schooling after the seventh grade as the loss of her caretakers meant she could not afford the fees. Lydia works as a farmer and sells vegetables at the local market, and her husband works in the motorcycle taxi business.
Over two years ago, Lydia began experiencing backaches, lower abdominal pain, and other worrisome symptoms. Doctors diagnosed the condition as a premalignant cervical lesion and determined that Lydia needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), can help Lydia finally heal. On March 15th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at AMH’s care center. Upon recovery, Lydia will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. AMH is requesting $219 to fund this procedure.
Lydia says, “In support of what the doctor said, I think that when I am operated on, the bleeding will stop, I will get healed and be in a position to continue with my work activities.”
