Sarah is a 43-year-old nun who serves with Our Lady of Fatima Rushoroza and lives at their motherhouse in Rushoroza. She is the second born in a family of 6. Her father died in 1993 and left her mother who took care of her and her siblings.
Since September 2020, Sarah has been experiencing lower abdominal pains accompanied by severe bleeding. She’s had treatment that has helped momentarily, but her condition always returns. She now has more pain than before. Currently, she cannot bend down or stand comfortably for a long time due to severe pain and shared that it is even difficult for her to take a bath.
Sarah has been diagnosed with abnormal uterine bleeding and endometrial hyperplasia. If not treated, there is an increased risk of abnormal uterine bleeding worsening and its associated complications and risk of developing endometrial cancer. She shared that her congregation is unable to fund her surgery due to the current financial instability in the congregation as well as having many patients on their list to help. To help her heal, she needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $319 to fund Sarah’s surgery. On September 4th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner’s care center. Once recovered, Sarah will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Sarah says, “I hope to regain my health through surgery. When I am free from the pain, I will be able to continue with my day to day duties as a nun much more comfortably.”
