Meet Chhrin, a 66-year-old Cambodian woman with one daughter and three grandchildren. Chhrin enjoys visiting the pagoda to listen to the monks pray and planting vegetables around her home.
After developing cataracts in both eyes two years ago, Chhrin lost the ability to get around on her own. She experiences blurred vision, irritation, burning, and photophobia (an extreme sensitivity to light).
Chhrin traveled three hours with her sister to reach Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for medical treatment. Her sister has had surgery at CSC in the past.
For $292, Chhrin will receive a phacoemulsification procedure to break apart and remove her clouded lenses. Doctors will replace the clouded lenses with clear, intraocular lens implants.
After her procedure, Chhrin will be able to see clearly once again.
