Phearith is a four-year-old boy from Cambodia. He has six siblings and lives with his parents and three of his siblings; the three oldest siblings are working and have moved out. His parents work as potato diggers on a farm to make a living. Phearith’s favorite meal is rice sour soup. He loves playing on the phone with his dad.
Phearith was born with a mass behind his right eyeball, causing his right eye to protrude and become displaced. The mass has increased over time, causing fluid to leak from his right eye, which has resulted in his inability to see from that eye. He underwent surgery a year ago, which reduced the size of the mass, but it has started to regrow again. Now, Phearith relies solely on his left eye to see, and his mother is concerned about the regrowth and its impact on his vision and overall well-being.
Fortunately, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. Phearith traveled four hours with his parents to get a diagnosis and to prepare for surgical excision. On November 26th, surgeons will perform an enucleation of his right eye, where the affected eye will be removed to prevent further complications. This surgery will help him by improving his health and preventing the regrowth of the mass. Phearith’s family can only afford $100 and needs your support for the remaining $626, which will cover surgical care, recovery in the hospital, medications, and histology analysis of the issue.
Phearith’s mother shared: “I hope after his operation, he can start school and feel comfortable around other children.”
