Daro is a 17-year-old delivery driver from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Cham province and helps care for his two younger siblings, who are still in school. Daro works as a delivery driver for a local business, and his parents sell fish in the market to support the family. Before his accident, Daro enjoyed playing volleyball with friends and trying different sports.
Three months ago, Daro was injured when someone threw an object at the road while he was driving his motorbike at night, causing him to crash and sustain a nerve injury of his arm. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his right side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is unable to lift his arm, has limited function in his hand, and sometimes feel pain or tingling in his fingers and shoulder. This makes him difficult to do his daily activities, including his delivery job.
Fortunatey, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. Daro traveled to our medical partner’s care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On December 17th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, he will be able to use his arm again. Daro can contribute $100, but needs help to raise $637 more to fund his procedure and care.
Daro said, “I hope I will be able to use my right arm again and I can return to my job to earn money to support myself and my family.”
