Mchuno is a nine-year-old boy who lives with his four siblings and parents in Tanzania. Mchuno loves to look at pictures in storybooks and play with toy cars. His parents say he is a very shy and quiet boy. Mchuno was born with club feet, a condition in which the feet are turned inwards and downwards. The condition causes him significant pain and impairs his ability to walk.
His mother is a house wife and his father is a casual laborer. What they earn for a living is hardly enough to cover the basic needs of the family, let alone the medical care that Mchuno needs.
Mchuno’s parents say, “We just hope our son’s deformity can be corrected and allow him to walk without discomfort.” A $500 surgery will correct the club feet, grant his parents’ wish and enable Mchuno to walk without pain.
