Sodanita is a cheerful but shy 10-year-old student from Cambodia. She lives in Phnom Penh province with her parents and six-year-old sister. Her mother stays home to manage the household, while her father works in a mattress factory to support the family. Sodanita is in the third grade and loves reading books. At home, she helps her mother with housework and plays with her younger sister.
Sodanita was born with torticollis, which causes her head to tilt to the right, due to muscle and tendon tightness in the neck. Her condition became noticeably worse at age three, but she has received no treatment due to financial constraints. Now, Sodanita has limited movement in her neck, making it difficult for her to turn her head. She has also developed posture problems. She needs to undergo a tendon and nerve repair procedure to regain her strength and mobility.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is helping Sodanita receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo the tendon and nerve repair procedure on May 5th. This procedure will cost $572, and Sodanita and her family need your support.
Sodanita’s mother shared, “I look forward to seeing my daughter move her head easily and have a normal posture when she grows up.”
