Poe is a four-year-old boy from Burma. He lives with his parents and four siblings in a small town close to the Thai border.
When Poe was three months old, he started to cough a lot and had a fever. His parents took him to a nearby research unit, where the doctor discovered that Poe had a hernia. However, the doctor said Poe was still too young to have a surgery. The doctor told Poe’s parents to bring him back when he was four years old.
Just before he turned four, Poe started to complain about the pain. He felt pain whenever he coughed or walked. BCMF has scheduled Poe’s hernia repair for April 24, and they are requesting $1,500 to fund the surgery.
“I want to study. But if I can’t, I will just do corn farming with my mother,” says Poe.
