Esther is a seven-year-old girl who lives with her parents and eight siblings in Tanzania. She is the youngest child. Her father works as a pastor at their church. In her free time, Esther likes to play football and play with toy dolls with her mother. When she grows up, she wants to become a doctor.
Esther was recently diagnosed with a post-burn contracture in her wrists and hands. A contracture is a shortening and hardening of muscles. Her condition has also caused deformation of the flexion joints of the right wrist and fingers. She also has a contracture in the right hip and extensive burn wounds in her torso and thighs.
In order to treat her condition, our medical partner has scheduled a contracture release, a scar excision of the right wrist and hand, and an application of a skin graft for March 31. Our medical partner, Mission Restore, is requesting $1,469 to fund these procedures.

Esther underwent a contracture release.
Esther is on her way to restoring the use of her hand and arm! While Esther’s extensive burn injuries mean she will undergo more surgery in the future, this is arguably the most important, as it will restore the use of her arm and hand. After recovering from surgery and going through physical therapy, Esther will be able to hold items like utensils to feed herself, as well as be able to bend and straighten her elbow. These are big steps toward Esther’s recovery and we know with her vivacious spirit she will put her new strength to good use at school and at play.
