Teresiah is a 51-year-old woman from Kenya. She and her husband work as farmers, and together they have four children. Because of her grandchild’s hydrocephalus, Teresiah has halted treatment for her own medical condition and instead focused on supporting her daughter and grandchild.
Teresiah suffers from a multinodular goiter, or an enlarged thyroid. She had her first thyroidectomy in 1995, however the goiter reoccurred. Teresiah has been postponing her treatment in light of her family’s other medical concerns, but she now requires surgery in order to prevent her condition from intensifying. Without treatment, Teresiah may experience further swelling on her neck and have increased difficulty eating.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $640 to cover the cost of Teresiah’s thyroidectomy. The surgery is scheduled to take place on May 23 and, once completed, will hopefully allow Teresiah to return to the activities that she enjoys, such as singing in her church’s choir.
