Samwel is a 15-year-old student. He is the second-to-last child in a family of seven children. He resides in the Mpanda region and had to discontinue his education during his primary school years due to the remote location of his school, which made it impossible for him to travel long distances because of his birth condition. His parents, who are farmers, work daily to provide food for the family and generate additional income by selling their surplus harvest. To supplement the family’s income, his mother also engages in a side business of selling charcoal. Despite his parents’ efforts to seek treatment for his condition, limited financial resources prevented them from affording treatment at hospitals capable of providing the specialised care he needed. Consequently, Samwel had to adapt to his situation. He assists his family with farm work, although he tends to tire quickly. Remarkably, he has even discovered a way to derive enjoyment from playing football and other sports with his friends. In July 2022, our medical partner's care centre had the opportunity to meet Samwel and his parents during one of the outreach visits. They were deeply moved by how he had found ways to enjoy his life despite living with a condition that could have limited him in numerous ways. Samwel has clubfoot of both feet. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. Fortunately, Samwel's family now traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, The Plaster House NGO. There, the team will begin clubfoot treatment on September 15. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $935 to fund Samwel's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk comfortably and play sports even better. Samwel says, “I feel like this is a blessing. I once thought I was meant to live with this condition for life. I hope this treatment will enable me to work harder and enjoy sports better.”

Rabecca is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is a mother to four children, all delivered via caesarean section. Three of her children attend primary and secondary school, while the youngest remains at home and hasn't started schooling yet. Rabecca has attended antenatal care at Nyakibale Hospital on six occasions during her pregnancy. Due to financial difficulties, Rebecca had to leave school after primary six grade. Consequently, she does not have a formal job. She is involved in cultivating food crops on a small piece of land which is the main means of sustenance. These crops are primarily intended for home consumption, but any surplus is sold to generate income for her family. Her husband works as a construction porter on various building sites. Despite their combined efforts, their incomes are insufficient to cover her medical expenses. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family. Rabecca is currently expecting her fifth child. Her doctors recommend that she deliver via a caesarean section because of four previous scars. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Rabecca undergo a C-Section on August 8th. This procedure will cost $252, and Rabecca needs your support. Rebecca says, "We survive miraculously by God's mercy, due to our limited family income. This restriction even hinders us from providing basic necessities like medical care. However, I believe that with your support, I will be able to have a successful delivery."

Sok Din is a 13 year-old seventh grader who lives in Takeo province with his parents and two brothers. Both of his parents are rice farmers. Sok Din is one of the top students in his class, and he is hoping to study biology at university. When he was 10 months old, Sok Din burned his hand and lower leg in an accidental gasoline fire at home. Using their savings and borrowed money, the family travelled to Vietnam, so that Sok Din could be treated. Thankfully, the treatment was successful, and Sok Din returned home a few weeks later. Since then, however, scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin on his left hand, limiting his hand's functionality, and making Sok Din feel embarrassed at school. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is seeking $495 to fund burn contracture release surgery for Sok Din, which is scheduled for May 18th, at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. After his surgery, Sok Din and his family hope that he will be able to use his hand more fully, and that he will no longer feel embarrassed at school.
