Nich is a 50-year-old woman from Cambodia. She is married and lives in Battambang Province with her husband, who serves in the army at the border. They have three children; the eldest sells pork at a local market, the second child works as a coffee seller, and the youngest is a university student. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and helping with household tasks. In September 2024, Nich suffered severe burns in a gas explosion while cooking. Although her burn wounds healed after treatment at a local clinic, she developed significant scar contractures affecting her neck and both armpits, with the neck being the most severely affected area. She later underwent burn contracture release surgery with the help of our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. Following that procedure, her condition improved, and she experienced better movement and comfort. However, over time, the scar contracture gradually recurred, causing increasing tightness around her neck. The tight scars make it difficult for Nich to turn or extend her head normally, and she sometimes struggles to eat because of the restricted movement. On June 18th, surgeons at CSC will perform a free flap procedure to release the severe neck contracture and reconstruct the affected area with healthy tissue. This surgery is expected to improve neck movement, reduce tightness and discomfort, enhance function, and lower the risk of future recurrence. The procedure will also help her eat more comfortably and carry out daily activities with greater ease and independence. Nich said, “I am very grateful for the treatment and support I received before. It helped me feel much better for a long time. I hope this surgery will further improve my condition, allow me to move my neck more freely, and help me enjoy daily life with my family without discomfort.”

Hafisoh is a 29-year-old mother of two and a factory worker from Cambodia. She is married and lives with her family in Kratie Province. Her husband works in a garment factory, and together they have two children. Their eldest child is in Grade 2, and their youngest attends kindergarten. Because both parents work, the children stay with their grandmother during the day. In her free time, she enjoys caring for her children and doing household chores. On the 21st of March 2026, Hafisoh was involved in a traffic accident that caused a closed fracture of the right distal humerus (right elbow area). Initially, she sought treatment from a traditional Khmer healer and was treated with a bamboo sling, but her condition did not improve. The injury has caused severe pain and deformity in her right elbow, and she is now unable to move her arm properly. This has made it difficult for her to perform daily activities, care for her children, and continue working at the factory. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 11th, Hafisoh will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will stabilize the fracture, relieve pain, and restore movement in her arm. This treatment will help her regain function so she can return to work, care for her family, and resume her normal daily activities. She can contribute $37.50, but needs help raising $563 more to cover the cost of her procedure and care. Hafisoh said, “After the surgery, I hope that I will recover fully, regain movement in my arm, and be able to return to my daily activities and care for my family without pain.”

Wadley is a seven-year-old boy who lives with his parents and older brother in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His parents are both vendors. Wadley does not currently go to school due to his illness. He likes watching cartoons and listening to music. Wadley was born with a cardiac condition called double outlet right ventricle. A major artery connects to his heart at an abnormal location, preventing blood from circulating properly through his heart and body. This condition causes weakness and exhaustion and can lead to heart failure if untreated. Wadley needs to fly to the Dominican Republic to receive treatment. On June 26th, he will undergo heart surgery, during which doctors will detach the artery from his heart and reconnect it at the appropriate position. Another organization is paying for the surgery. But Wadley’s family also needs help to fund the costs of care before and after surgery. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to cover labs, medicines, and check-up and follow-up appointments. It also supports securing travel documents for the family and travel costs for the social workers from our medical partner, who will accompany Wadley's family overseas. Wadley’s mother shares, “Our family has been praying for this surgery to be possible for many years, and our prayers are finally being answered!”
