This is Khadija. She’s six-years-old and lives in Tanzania with her mother. She’s known to be quiet and shy but loved singing and playing games in school – she’s in kindergarten.
Recently Khadija had an accident and burned her right hand. “She was sitting down on a short stool and lost her balance and as she tried to get her balance back she put her hand into a half filled pan with boiling water,” African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF) tells us. “She was taken to the hospital and the wounds healed but she developed contractures of all of her fingers except her thumb.”
Clinicians at AMHF have recommended a contracture release and skin graft so that Khadija can regain full use of her hand. The cost of this procedure will run at $870 - well beyond the family’s reach.
Khadija is the only child to her mother, a single parent. While Khadija’s mother works very hard to support her daughter, her current job as an attendant as a restaurant is barely able to make ends meet let alone pay for the cost of the Khadija’s care right now.
““I hope my daughter’s fingers can be straightened so that she can hold a pencil while in class and be able to do many other activities,” Khadija’s mother says.
Let’s come together and fund Khadija’s surgery so that she can write, sing, and play at school.
