Biruk is a 13-year-old boy from Ethiopia. Biruk loves to write and enjoys physical activity. His favorite subjects are Amharic and Math. He also loves singing and enjoys playing volleyball with his friends. Biruk's father is a farmer. Biruk and his five siblings help their father by engaging in casual work and helping on the farm. Biruk was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. As the cost of the surgery and travel to the hospital was too much for their family, Biruk has not had surgery to correct his condition. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and may be at risk for other health complications. Biruk's father heard about Bethany Kids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre and its services from a relative whose son was also treated in the hospital. Fortunately, Biruk is scheduled for surgery on April 23rd. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, requests $1,293 to cover his procedure and care costs. Biruk's father said, "If we did not get this chance, we would not have found a treatment. I hope he undergoes surgery successfully and returns home safely."

Lucia is a baby from southern Bolivia. Her mother stays home with her, and her father is a delivery driver. Lucia was born with a heart condition called coarctation of the aorta. A major blood vessel leading to the heart is too small, which leaves Lucia weak and unable to properly grow. Additionally, she has turner syndrome. Lucia needs surgery to open the aorta to its full size. This will allow blood to flow more easily so she can grow up healthy. Lucia's mother states: "Our family is so happy to know that our daughter can finally have this surgery; we have been hoping for this opportunity since she was born."

Srey Fa is a 7-year-old 2nd grader who lives in Svay Rieng province with her parents and two siblings. Her father works as a tuk tuk driver, and her mom sells groceries from a street side stall. Srey Fa is the youngest in the family and loves playing with her siblings and neighbors in the village. Her favorite subjects are Art and English. In the future, she would like to be an accountant or a teacher. Around four years ago, Srey Fa has been experiencing a sore throat and difficulty swallowing. She often misses school and skips meals due to the pain. Srey Fa was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Srey Fa, which is scheduled to take place on February 7th. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Srey Fa of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably. Her mother said, "I hope my daughter can breathe easier and stop the infections so she can stay in school."
