Ham is a 59-year-old monk from Kandal province Cambodia. He is widowed with two daughters, five sons, and fifteen grandchildren. When his wife passed away ten years ago, Ham moved in with his oldest daughter and her family. After retiring from rice farming last year, he decided to move to the village pagoda and become a monk. In his spare time, he cares for the grounds of the temple, prays, and reads religious texts. About one year ago, Ham noticed the development of a cataract in his left eye. This condition involves the clouding of the lens, resulting in a view that resembles looking through a frosted or fogged-up window. The cataract has been causing Ham discomfort, including itchiness, tearing, and blurred vision. These symptoms have heightened his concern about the risk of falling while walking, making him hesitant to venture out alone. When Ham learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On April 1st, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, Ham needs help to fund this $253 procedure. Ham shared, "I hope after surgery my eye can see better so I can read the books at the pagoda and be able to go to town on my own."

Sokchum is a 38-year-old coffee cart merchant from Siem Reap Province in Cambodia. He lives by himself and has three siblings who live with their single mother in another rural province a few hours away. To support himself and his family, Sokchum rents a small cart space to sell coffee. In his free time, Sokchum enjoys watching boxing and soccer on TV with his friends. About eleven years ago, Sokchum had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Sokchum has been experiencing some concerning symptoms including difficulty in hearing, pain, and ear discharge. It has become increasingly difficult for him to communicate with his customers, family, and friends. Sokchum traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On June 6th, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in his left ear. During this procedure, ENT surgeons will remove the cholesteatoma. Sokchum is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of his treatment and need help raising $826 more to fund the procedure. This will cover the cost of medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Sokchum says: "I hope that after surgery I will be able to hear more clearly so I can improve communication with my customers."

Chha Krith is a 23-year-old grocery seller from Cambodia. Together with his wife, Chha Krith runs a small grocery shop outside of their home, selling packaged foods and mobile phone cards. In 2017, Chha Krith was in a horrifying road traffic accident, which resulted in the amputation of his arm and a fracture of his right leg. He underwent surgery to heal his fracture, through the use of metal implants. Now the fracture has healed, but the hardware is causing difficulty for Chha Krith, specifically with walking and sitting. He is also in chronic pain. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On June 5th, Chha Krith will undergo a hardware removal procedure at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre. He is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $204 more to fund the procedure. After surgery, Chha Krith hopes he can walk comfortably again and find a better job to support his family.
