Sok is a 65-year-old tailor from Kompong Cham province. He has one son and one grandchild. For the last thirty years, Sok has worked as a tailor in the local market, running his own busy stall. In his free time, he likes to watch boxing and the news on TV.
About one year ago, Sok developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on his own.
When Sok learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for three hours seeking treatment. On June 6th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Sok is able to contribute $100 but needs help to raise $153 more to fund the procedure.
Sok shared, “I hope after surgery I can see more clearly and I can do my work more easily.”
