Sim is a six-year-old student from Cambodia. She lives in Kandal Province with her family of five. Her family includes her grandfather, who is retired, her father, who works as a police officer, her mother, who runs a grocery store from home, and her three-year-old sister. Sim is currently in second grade, and her favorite subject is Khmer. She enjoys eating ice cream and loves playing and studying with her younger sister at home.
Four years ago, Sim suffered an injury when her left hand got caught in a running treadmill. This caused a crush injury that resulted in a burn scar between her third and fourth fingers. Now, the area around her burn scar has tightened, which limits movement in her fingers and hand. She is unable to hold objects, and it is painful when her mother tries to stretch her fingers.
When Sim learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On May 20th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help her move her fingers and reduce the tightness, making it easier for her to use her left hand for daily activities. Now, she needs help to fund this $495 procedure.
Sim’s mother shared, “I hope the surgery will help her move her fingers and not feel tight anymore.”
