Lyhuot is a 10-year-old student from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Thum province with his parents and three siblings. His parents work as rice farmers, while the younger children attend school, and the oldest child helps one of his uncles in a retail shop. Lyhuot is in 5th grade and his favorite subject is math. In his free time, he enjoys playing soccer with his friends in the village.
For the past three months, Lyhuot has been experiencing frequent sore throats, difficulty swallowing, snoring at night, and recurring headaches. Frequent illness causes him to feel lethargic and miss school. Lyhuot was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Lyhuot, which is scheduled to take place on November 13th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Lyhuot of his symptoms and helping him live much more comfortably.
Lyhout’s mother said, “I hope he can feel healthy again and focus on school.”

Lyhout was understandably fearful about the procedure, but the gentle care provided by the ENT team helped calm his fears. He spent the night in the post-operative ward, receiving pain medication as needed. His mother was given instructions to ensure he only consumes room-temperature liquids and soft foods until his follow-up visit.
After his tonsillectomy, Lyhuot will be able to breathe, sleep, and eat more comfortably. He will no longer suffer from frequent sore throats or recurring headaches, allowing him to attend school regularly and focus on his studies. Additionally, he will have more energy to play soccer and engage in activities with his friends, which he was unable to do before due to his illness.
Lyhuot’s mother said: “I am very thankful for the care at CSC. I hope my son can feel healthy again, grow strong, and enjoy school.”
