Chheng is a 19-year-old farmer from Cambodia. In her spare time, Chheng enjoys doing housework and watching TV.
When Chheng was six years old, she developed an ear infection, which ended up rupturing the ear drum (or tympanic membrane) on both sides. Chheng currently experiences ear discharge, hearing loss, and ringing in the ears.
After traveling for four hours with her mother, Chheng reached our medical partner’s care center for treatment. On August 3, surgeons will perform a myringoplasty procedure to repair the perforated ear drum in Chheng’s right ear. Chheng will need to return to have the same procedure performed in the other ear. Surgeons expect Chheng’s hearing to improve over time.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $831 to help pay for Chheng’s surgery.

Chheng underwent ear surgery.
Chheng’s treatment for her right ear went well. Following the procedure, she was given pain medication and antibiotic ear drops to take for two weeks. Her sutures were removed one week later. Chheng feels mild pain on the wound, but she is recovering nicely. Once her ear is healed, Chheng will return to CSC for the same procedure on the left ear.
Chheng says, “I am really happy that I had the surgery. I can hear better now and the ear discharge has stopped. I can go back to work as usual and stop feeling shy around others.”
