“I thank you for your help,” shares Andrew, a 42-year-old man from Malawi. “This has been a big problem in my life.”
Andrew and his wife have five young children. To support this sizable family, Andrew works as a driver, and also farms a small plot of land to raise fresh produce. When he isn’t working, Andrew’s favorite pastimes are relaxing with his family and watching videos.
Since 2008, Andrew has had an inguinal hernia. This condition results when tissue pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal wall. In addition to causing frequent discomfort, especially during exertion, hernias in the groin region can become deadly if the protruding tissue gets cut off from blood flow.
Andrew has had several operations to treat his hernia, but they were not properly carried out, and now he is in pain frequently. Fortunately, though, your donations will make it possible for Andrew to receive a high-quality revision surgery at our medical partner’s care center, Nkhoma Hospital. $334 will cover the cost of his operation on June 20, as well as his travel to the procedure and his follow-up visit.
Andrew and his wife were overjoyed to hear that his suffering will soon be alleviated. With your help, he can return soon to working hard for his family—and to spending time with them, pain-free.
