Hangatu is a 60-year-old mother of four from Ethiopia. For many years, she and her husband worked on their farm, until her husband died about a year ago. Following this, Hangatu's son, his wife and their children moved in with her. Presently, the whole household lives and works together, depending on the farm for food and income. Over the past four years, a cataract has slowly clouded Hangatu's right eye. At first, her vision was only a little blurry, but it kept getting worse. Now the eye is completely clouded, and she can barely see out of it. She struggles to see clearly, judge distances, and move around safely, especially in bright sunlight or at dusk. Simple tasks like cooking, cleaning, and walking independently have become hard. Farm work, which needs good eyesight and steady hands, is now difficult and sometimes unsafe. She worries about falling or hurting herself while working. Hangatu, who has always been hardworking and independent, is now unable to contribute the way she used to, and relies on her son and his family for help. Fortunately, Hangatu is scheduled to undergo cataract surgery with the help of our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital. Surgeons will remove and replace the blurred lens. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, Hangatu needs help to raise $150 to fund this procedure. She says, "I am worried about living in darkness. If I get an opportunity to see again, I will work beside my son, help my family, and take care of myself like before."

Hirphasa is a 68-year-old father of ten children from Ethiopia. Hirphasa lost his wife eight years ago, and has dedicated his life to raising his family of six boys and four girls. Throughout his decades working the land, he took great pride in being hardworking and completely self-sufficient. Hirphasa is presently facing a difficult chapter in his life, as cataracts slowly cloud his left eye, causing his vision to blur and making it very hard for him to see at night. This gradual loss of sight has taken away his independence, making him rely heavily on his children just to get around and handle daily tasks. Fortunately, on August 19th, Hirphasa is scheduled to undergo cataract surgery with the help of our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, where surgeons will remove and replace the blurred lens. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, Hirphasa needs help to raise $150 to fund this procedure. "I hope to take the heavy weight of caregiving off my family, regain my strength, and bring bright days and joy back to my home," said Hirphasa

Paw is a 23-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her husband and son in a refugee camp in Sob Moei District, Mae Hong, Thailand. Her husband is a day labourer outside of the camp. She is a homemaker and primarily cares for her son at home. Her husband's income is just enough to cover their daily expenses, and they receive free basic healthcare in the camp. Paw is currently expecting her second child. Her doctors recommend that she deliver via a caesarean section because of a high-risk pregnancy. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is helping Paw undergo a C-Section on August 11th. This procedure will cost $1500, and Paw needs your support. Paw said, "In the future, I hope to work outside of the camp like my husband when my children are older, with the support of my parents-in-law, who have offered to help care for my children."
