One month ago, Laiheng was playing in his village when a nail from a construction site accidentally hit him in the eye, causing a traumatic cataract. Now, Laiheng is beginning to lose his vision. He has been missing a lot of school, and without immediate surgical intervention, he risks further complications.
Cataract surgeries take less than an hour to complete. Complications are rare, and most people experience improved vision within a few weeks. The total cost of Laiheng’s surgery amounts to $300, but in an area of Cambodia where the average person makes less than $2 a day, paying several hundred dollars for treatment would be impossible for his family. This is an extremely inexpensive, high-impact treatment that will change Laiheng’s life.
Laiheng is in the fifth grade. He enjoys school and wants to be a motorbike mechanic when he grows up. Laiheng’s mother is a fruit farmer and his father works on a rubber plantation. His parents heard about CSC from a neighbor and they are hopeful that Laiheng can get the treatment he needs!
