Benard is a 40-year-old energetic man who lives with his wife and two children in Central Kenya. His children attend school, and his wife takes care of the household.
On January 29, 2017, Benard was involved in a traffic accident while riding a motorbike. He sustained a fractured left femur (thigh bone) and a fractured left radius (arm bone) at the wrist. Benard underwent surgery on his leg for the fractured femur. However, an X-ray revealed that his arm is not healing as expected.
The surgeon at our medical partner’s care center recommends that Benard undergo a second surgical procedure—open reduction and internal fixation with pin insertion. This will reposition and set the broken arm and enable faster healing. Without surgery, Benard is likely to have malunion of the bones and may not have full use of his arm in the future.
Benard was able to raise money from friends for his first surgery, but it is hard to ask them to give money again. Therefore, he needs help raising $998 to pay for the operation and two weeks of hospital care, including X-rays, lab tests, medicine, and physical therapy. His surgery is scheduled for March 27.
“My family is still young, and I have the hope of working hard to ensure I meet all of their needs and see my children educated,” Benard shares. “I hope that Watsi will come to my aid and help me to undergo this operation.”
