Hong is a 64-year-old mother and grandmother from Cambodia. She lives with her husband and their oldest daughter in Phnom Penh. They sell secondhand clothes in a local market. At home, Hong enjoys spending time with her grandchildren and listening to the monks on Buddhist radio. On May 12, 2024, Hong slipped on a wet surface and fractured her left hip bone. She is unable to walk and is in chronic pain. Hong's relatives referred her to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, for help. On May 14th, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a hemiarthroplasty surgery on her left hip. This will help Hong regain her mobility and to live without pain. Hong and her family are able to contribute $100 but need help raising $444 to fund the remaining costs for the procedure and post-op care, including in-patient stay and physiotherapy. Hong's husband said, "I hope after surgery my wife can walk easily, and she won't be in pain."

Chantha is an 11-year-old girl who lives with her parents and one brother in Preah Vihear Province. Her parents are rice farmers, and her youngest brother is seven years old and in the first grade. Chantha is in the fifth grade and attends school regularly. At school, she enjoys studying Khmer and aspires to become a nurse when she grows up. At home, she likes to eat apples and watermelon. In her free time, Chantha loves reading books with her little brother. When she was six, Chantha had a partial amputation on her upper lip from a dog bite. She now has asymmetry in her upper lip, with the right side slightly longer than the left, and an abnormally small mouth. The injury was initially repaired with a local flap at a children's hospital. However, Chantha still has difficulty opening her mouth to eat or speak and has a prominent contracture scar on her lip. Fortunately, our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. Her parents were referred to CSC by a local hospital and traveled five hours for consultation. Chantha is scheduled for contracture release surgery on June 11th. This procedure will improve the scar on her lip. Now, Chantha and her family need help raising $462 to fund this procedure and post-operative care. Chantha's mother shared: "I hope the doctors can fix her scar so she can move her mouth and not be self-conscious."

Talina is a mother of two children from Malawi. Her older son works in construction, and the youngest is in school. Talina’s husband works as a mechanic while she sells second-hand clothes. Talina likes chatting with the family and enjoys eating chips served with fish. Since October 2023, Talina has been experiencing abdominal pains and bleeding. She has been diagnosed with huge uterine fibroids and needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. She was scheduled for surgery at a nearby hospital, but due to a long wait list, the surgery was never done. Her condition worsened, affecting her business as she spent more time at home or visiting hospitals. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help. They are requesting $1,363 to fund Talina's surgery. On July 6th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner's care center, Partners in Hope Medical Center. Once recovered, Talina will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain. Talina said, “I am so happy to have been considered for financial support. I have hope that the surgery will restore my health enabling me to live a healthy life again and resume my business afterward.”
