Say is a 60-year-old cook from Cambodia. She has one daughter, two grandchildren, and enjoys watching the news and Khmer dramas on television.
Two years ago, Say developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her vision loss. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
Say traveled to our medical partner Children’s Surgical Centre seeking treatment. On February 3rd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
She said, “I hope that I will be able to take care of my family again by helping care for my grandchildren and assist with the housework.”

Say underwent cataract surgery.
Say’s surgery was a great success and her sight has been restored. She will now rest at home and needs to apply eye drops several times per day to prevent infection. Say’s nephew is very happy that his aunt can see everything clearly and she can now easily return to work and is able to go anywhere outside that she wants. He is happy that he no longer has to worry about her or her vision loss.
Say shared, “I am so happy that I can recognize everyone’s faces more clearly than before. Now, I can help my family with the housework, and I can go anywhere that I want to by myself. I don’t need to disturb anyone and no one has to take care of me like before.”
