Vatt is an adorable one-year-old boy from Cambodia. He is the only child in his family and lives in a small village in Kandal province with his parents. His father is a truck driver, and his mother works at a brick kiln. At home, he enjoys playing with small toy cars. His favorite meal is fried pork with rice.
Vatt sustained a burn injury to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th fingers of his left hand after spilling hot porridge. Burn scar contractures have developed, tightening the skin around his fingers. This makes it difficult for him to use his hand properly, and he experiences pain when someone tries to stretch his fingers.
On February 19, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help Vatt regain movement in his fingers, relieve pain, and allow him to use his hand normally. This will help him carry out daily activities, play, and grow like other children. Now, he needs help to fund this $652 procedure.
Vatt’s father said, “I hope after the surgery my son will be able to move his fingers normally and use his hand without pain, so he can grow and play like other children.”
