“I can’t work, and it is difficult for me to carry heavy things,” says Sary, a 62-year-old rice and vegetable farmer from Cambodia.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, tells us that the father of 7 and grandfather of 12 sustained a fracture in his left forearm in June 2015, after a large piece of wood fell onto his arm. Since being injured, he can no longer work to care for his wife and family.
Sary has tried Khmer traditional remedies for help with the healing process and pain relief, but his condition has not improved. If he goes untreated, he risks his arm not properly healing, affecting his ability to work for a long time.
Sary’s arm can be treated with an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgery, which costs a total of $405. During ORIF surgery, the bone in his forearm will be realigned and set in place so that healing can occur properly and quickly. CSC says that after surgery, “Sary will regain use of his left arm.”
“After I am healed, I will return home and help my family with work,” shares Sary.
Sary’s wife adds, “Many thanks to the doctors and nurses who are helping him.”
