Srey Nich is a seven-year-old schoolgirl from Cambodia. She lives in Kandal Province with her mother and elderly grandmother. Her grandmother and mother earn a living by selling fish caught by her grandfather. She is the only child in her family, and her parents divorced when she was a baby. She is currently in Grade 2, enjoys mathematics, and hopes to become a teacher in the future. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her friends in the village. For the past two months, Srey Nich has been experiencing recurrent right ear pain, blocked hearing, ringing in the ear (tinnitus), persistent runny nose, and nasal congestion. Hearing tests showed moderate to severe conductive hearing loss in her right ear due to chronic fluid behind the eardrum (glue ear). The condition affects her ability to hear clearly, which may make communication and learning at school more difficult. Repeated ear pain and hearing problems can affect her comfort, concentration, and daily activities. Srey Nich was recently diagnosed with enlarged adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund an adenoidectomy and grommet insertion for Srey Nich, which is scheduled to take place on July 16th. The procedure will relieve her of her symptoms and allow her to hear better, improving her quality of life. Srey Nich's grandmother said, “I hope this surgery will help my granddaughter hear clearly again and stop the ear pain that has bothered her for so long. I want her to be healthy, enjoy school, and grow up without these repeated ear problems.”

Sophorn is a 68-year-old Tuk-Tuk driver from Phnom Penh. He is married and has one son, four daughters, and four grandchildren. He lives with his wife, who is a housewife, and with his oldest daughter, who works as a house cleaner. In his free time, Sophorn likes to watch the news on his phone. About two years ago, Sophorn developed a cataract in his right eye. This causes him to experience itching, tearing, and blurred vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. Sophorn has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces. He is also worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. When Sophorn learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On March 16th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, our medical partner is requesting $263 to fund Sophorn's procedure. Sophorn said, "I hope after surgery I can see better, so I can go back to driving Tuk Tuk. I'm also excited to recognize people."

Surjeet is a 26-year-old man from India. He drives an electric auto rickshaw as a daily wage earner. When Surjeet was four years old, he sustained burns while sitting around a bonfire during winter. For around two months, he was treated at home by a nurse working at a government hospital. Twelve years ago, Surjeet, who lives in Bihar, travelled over 300 kilometers to visit our medical partner, G.S. Memorial Plastic Surgery Hospital and Trauma Center, for specialized care. He had extensive post-burn contractures or tightening of the skin around the neck, arms, hands, and lower lip. He has undergone two surgeries for the release of his neck and left axillary contractures. Surjeet needs another surgery to help him regain strength and mobility in his right wrist and hand. On April 16th, he will undergo burn contracture release surgery, and he needs help raising $1,442 to fund his treatment and care. Surjeet has high hopes that this surgery will help him regain the function of his right hand. Surjeet's father shared, "With the help of G S Memorial Plastic Surgery Hospital, I hope that my son will be able to study further with the promise of a better future after this surgery."
