Aye is a 47-year-old mother, living with her daughter in Thailand. Up until four months ago, Aye worked as a day laborer on a farm. Because she has had to stop working, Aye's daughter left school, and now works as a nanny to help support her mother. Aye's siblings have also stepped up to support their sister. Five years ago, Aye began to experience pain on the left side of her body. She also developed a fever and vomiting, lost her appetite, and found it difficult to sleep. In addition, she experienced night sweats and a stiff neck. Aye was treated by a local health worker, and for a while, she felt better. However, in June 2021, her symptoms worsened, and she went to Mae Tao Clinic (MTC), where she was told to go to the hospital. Due to a lack of funds, Aye could not go to the hospital, and was treated at a local clinic, instead. In April 2022, Aye's symptoms returned, and she went back to Mae Tao Clinic, where she was diagnosed with stones in her left kidney. This time she did go the hospital, where she was told that she would need to have surgery, to remove the stones from her kidney. Thanks to our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, Aye is scheduled for surgery to remove the kidney stones on October 3rd, at Mae Sot General Hospital. After she has recovered, Aye should be able to return to her work and to enjoying her life, free from all of her uncomfortable symptoms. Aye and her family need your help to cover the $1,500 needed to pay for her surgery. Aye said: "I am happy that I will be able to receive surgery through donors. Emmanuel is a 17-year-old student from Haiti who hopes to become a doctor. He lives with his aunt and uncle in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince so that he can more easily attend school, as his parents live in the countryside. Emmanuel has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation, which means one of his heart valves was severely damaged from an infection he experienced in early childhood. In 2017, Emmanuel underwent heart surgery to repair his existing valve. This surgery stabilized his heart for several years, but the valve remains unable to pump blood adequately throughout his body. Emmanuel needs to undergo a second surgery to replace the valve with a prosthetic heart valve. Emmanuel will fly to the Dominican Republic to receive treatment, as this surgery is unavailable in Haiti. On November 10th, he will undergo cardiac surgery, during which surgeons will remove the damaged heart valve and implant a replacement valve. An organization called Mitral Foundation is contributing $8,000 to pay for help pay for surgery. Emmanuel's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and check-up and follow-up appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Emmanuel's family overseas. Emmanuel shared, "I am looking forward to growing stronger and having much more energy after my surgery!"

Chamroeun is a 36-year-old father of two, living with his wife and children near the Mekong River, in the Prey Veng province of Cambodia. Chamroeun used to work as a tuk-tuk driver, while his wife is a rainy day rice farmer. They also own several cows, from which they get fresh milk. Chamroeun was hit by a car in September while crossing a road near his home. His right arm and right clavicle were fractured, and he lost his lower left leg, as a result of the accident. Because he had no money, he was transferred from a local private clinic to a government hospital, where he spent several weeks recovering. His arm and clavicle were repaired, but the stump below his knee has still not healed fully. The skin around the stump is open, and Chamroeun is in chronic pain, and is unable to walk. He and his family have also found it difficult emotionally to adjust to Chamroeun losing part of his leg. When Chamroeun learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he sought their help. Now, on October 21st, surgeons at Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre will perform a skin graft procedure to help his leg heal, and to facilitate long-term rehabilitation. Chamroeun needs your help to fund this $487 procedure. Chamrouen shared: "After surgery, I hope my left leg and skin will heal soon. After the skin is good, I can get a prosthesis to walk without crutches and return to work to support my family again."
