Boxter is a farmer from Malawi. He is a husband and father of three from Dzungu village in Dowa District. He grows maize, tomatoes, and other crops to support his family. Three years ago, Boxter started experiencing urinary retention. It is a condition he chose to keep to himself, not sharing it even with those closest to him. Despite the discomfort, he continued working and providing for his family, doing his best to manage the situation quietly. Recently, he came to Nkhoma Hospital and waited in the surgical clinic to be seen. He was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Doctors explained that he needs a surgery, known as TURP, to relieve his condition and restore normal function. While this gave him a clear solution, it also brought worry. Boxter began making phone calls to family members, hoping they could help him raise the money for surgery. In the end, they were only able to gather a little, which is not enough to cover the full cost. He was advised to return home and wait until more funds could be found. Still in need and uncertain of what to do next, Boxter was referred to the SAFE Program for consideration. This has given him a chance to be heard and a renewed sense of hope. He now looks forward to the possibility of receiving treatment and returning to his normal life without the burden he has carried in silence for so long. Physicians at Nkhoma Hospital determined that Boxter should undergo a prostatectomy. A prostatectomy is a surgery to remove part or all of the prostate. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $530 to fund this procedure. The treatment is scheduled to take place at Nkhoma Hospital on April 29th. Once completed, it will hopefully improve Boxter's quality of life. Boxter said, “I have stayed with this problem for a long time without telling anyone. I was afraid and did not know how I would manage it. Now that I have a chance to be treated, I am hoping for support. I want to be well again and live without this condition.”

Sue is a 25-year-old man from Burma. He was a soldier and now lives at a safe house. Before he enlisted, he was a farmer. He has no income, but is given food and shelter. He usually goes to the army camp clinic for primary healthcare services. In his free time, he loves to exercise. On the 17th of October 2023, Sue sustained injuries to both of his legs from a landmine at the frontline. The medic provided initial first aid to stop the bleeding and promptly referred him to a hospital, where the doctors performed a right below-knee amputation and applied an external fixator to his left leg. Months later, he had to undergo both internal and external fixation surgery to help his leg heal. Now, the fracture has healed, and the rod must be removed to help improve his strength and mobility. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, can help. On July 17th, Sue will undergo surgery to remove the rod, and he needs your support to fund this $1,500 procedure. Sue said, "After this treatment, I would find an electronic training that I can learn with my hands for my future career. Thank you for helping me with all my treatment costs."

Phanna is a 26-year-old factory worker from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Thom Province with his widowed mother, who is a rice farmer. He is the second child of four siblings, and his siblings all work as factory workers. In his free time, he enjoys playing volleyball with his friends in the village. In April 2026, Phanna was involved in a serious motorcycle and truck collision while traveling to his hometown. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side, causing paralysis in his left arm. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He is unable to lift his arm, bend his elbow, or move his wrist normally. This makes it difficult for him to perform daily activities independently and prevents him from returning to his job as a factory worker. Phanna traveled to our medical partner's care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On July 16th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery, the procedure is expected to help him regain movement in his shoulder and elbow, improve his arm function, regain independence, and return to work. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is asking for help to fund this procedure. Phanna's family can contribute $50, but needs help raising $687 more. Phanna said, “Since the accident, I have not been able to use my left arm, and it has changed every part of my life. I hope this surgery will help me regain movement so I can return to work, take care of myself, and live more independently. I am grateful for the chance to receive this treatment.”
