Seavly is a 16-month-old toddler from Cambodia. She lives with her grandparents and an eight-year-old cousin in Kampong Speu province. Her parents could not make enough money to support their family, and now work in another province and send money home. Her grandmother takes care of the grandchildren at home, while her grandfather finds small jobs in construction work. At home, Seavly enjoys drinking milk and talking on the phone with her parents.
Seavly was born with syndactyly of her right hand. This means that her thumb and an extra finger are fused together. This condition makes it difficult to use her hand to feed herself, and her grandparents worry that she will face challenges with writing once she starts school.
Fortunately, on July 2nd, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, will perform a syndactyly repair procedure to separate and release the fused digits. After surgery, she will feel more comfortable and will be able to use her hand easily. Seavly’s family is able to contribute $50 towards her medical costs but needs help raising the remaining $394 in funds.
Seavly’s grandmother said: “I hope that Seavly can have a normal hand with normal fingers so that she will feel comfortable when starts school.”
