Kanika’s favorite subject in school is math, and she hopes to become a teacher when she gets older. She has one older sister, and enjoys playing with her toys, reading books, and watching television.
At the age of two, Kanika was diagnosed with scoliosis. Kanika has since undergone two previous operations on her spine, and now she requires an additional operation that will remove the rod which was placed to help align her spinal cord. Surgery will allow her to grow up normally and comfortably without worry about her condition.

Kanika underwent spinal surgery.
Kanika’s operation went well. Surgery will improve her quality of life by correcting her spine position and allowing Kanika to sit for long periods of time without discomfort. Surgery is also important to ensure Kanika does not further the worsening of the condition. Kanika’s mom feels happy that Kanika won’t have to miss any more school.
“I am so glad that my back is better and that I can walk easily again without any pain,” Kanika said.
