Rin is a 64-year-old rice farmer. She and her husband have four sons, five daughters, and many grandchildren. She lives with her husband who is also a farmer and their oldest daughter. Because she does not work outside anymore due to her limited vision, she spends time listening to monks pray on the radio and helps to care for the grandchildren.
Two years ago, Rin developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her photophobia, tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on her own.
When Rin learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for eight and a half hours seeking treatment. On March 10th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Rin was hopeful to see clearly again after surgery and told us, “I want to see faces well and help my family on the farm again.”
