Pheary is a 27-year-old man from Cambodia. He has seven siblings and lives only with his oldest sister and four young nephews in Kampong Chhnang province. He and his oldest sister worked as servers in a local restaurant to support their living. In his free time, he enjoys helping his nephews with their studies and homework.
On August 8, 2024, Pheary was struck from behind by a car that had no lights, causing him to fall off his motorbike and fracture his right ankle. He was initially treated at a provincial hospital for 12 days. However, the doctors informed him that they were unable to treat his fracture and recommended that he go to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, for further care. He has a severe injury and relies on crutches to walk. He has not been able to work since the accident. The pain in his ankle prevents him from walking long distances. The wound is swollen and infected with malodorous necrotic tissue, and the exposed ankle bone is causing stiffness and numbness in his foot.
On December 3rd, Pheary will undergo a fracture repair procedure that will remove the infected tissue, prevent the spread of infection further up his leg, and stabilize his fracture. Pheary can contribute $50 to his care but needs help to raise $433 more.
Pheary’s sister shared, “I hope that after surgery, Pheary will be able to walk easily again and return to work to support himself.”
