Meet Juliet, a small-scale farmer and mother of five. Her dream was to become a banker, but her father passed away when she was in primary school, and her family was unable to continue to pay her school fees. Juliet is married and earns a living through farming, while her husband works as a builder. They live in a two-roomed home in southwestern Uganda. Three of their children are in school, and the other two children are married or working. For five years now, Juliet has had an inguinal hernia. This condition causes her pain and discomfort, especially when she lifts things, coughs, or does strenuous work like cultivating the farm. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping her receive treatment. On March 21st, Juliet will undergo hernia repair surgery at AMH’s care center. Once completed, this procedure will allow her to live more comfortably and confidently. AMH is requesting $230 to fund Juliet's surgery. Juliet said: “I hope to get healed when I am operated on and continue with my activities in good health.”

Win is a 50-year-old man from Burma. He lives with his extended family in a village in Karen State, which is an area under conflict and violence. He and his wife have four children, and three grandchildren. Win, his wife, two sons and one of his sons-in-law are farmers, while his two daughters are homemakers. Win lost vision in his right eye in the middle of 2022. Two months after this occurred, the vision in his left eye blurred, until he could only perceive light. He was diagnosed with glaucoma in his left eye, and as a result of his impaired sight, he had to stop working. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to cover the cost of eye surgery for Win. On April 3rd, doctors at Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital will operate and, after recovery, Win will be able to see clearly again. Now, he needs your help to fund this $1,500 procedure. “I feel stressed and worried about my life," Win said. "I want to go back to work after my surgery.”

Oy is a 65 year-old grandmother from Cambodia. She has three sons, two daughters and eleven grandchildren to keep her busy. Currently, she lives with her husband and a few of her grandchildren, as some of her children work far from home. She shared that she does not have much free time, but when she does, she likes to go to the pagoda in her village. Two years ago, Oy developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Oy learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and half hours seeking treatment. On January 9th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help raising $253 to fund her procedure and care. Oy shared, "I hope my vision improves and I can do housework, take care of my grandchildren and get around easily by myself."
