Kimsrun is an 18-year-old student from Cambodia who lives with her parents and four siblings in Phnom Penh. Her family works hard to support each other. Her father is a rice farmer, and her mother sells food from home to earn a living. Her oldest sister helps by selling fruits at the market, while her two younger siblings are still in school. At home, Kimsrun enjoys helping her mother sell food, especially by making soup and cooking rice to sell.
Three years ago, Kimsrun had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the eardrum, in her left ear to perforate. As a result, Kimsrun experiences pain and discharge. This condition makes it difficult for her to concentrate in class or to help her mother sell food.
Kimsrun traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On May 5th, she will undergo a myringoplasty, during which surgeons will close the perforation in her left ear. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $487 to fund this procedure.
Kimsrun said, “I hope I no longer have ear discharge, so I can help my mother easily and focus at school.”
