Jannet is a 49-year-old woman from the Philippines. Before her health struggles, she was a locally elected leader who dedicated nine years to serving her community, often putting the needs of others before her own health. She has currently paused working and relies on the financial support of her child, who earns a living through online selling.
When Jannet discovered a breast lump, she initially delayed seeking treatment because she was busy helping those in her community. When she went for an investigation, she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy, but doctors recommend a mastectomy to remove the cancer and prevent it from spreading to other organs. Jannet already has medical debt, and her family cannot afford the surgery on their own.
Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Jannet receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a mastectomy on August 6th at Our Lady of Peace Hospital. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising $990 to cover the remaining cost. After treatment, Jannet will hopefully return to a cancer-free life.
Jannet shared, “I am happy, and I believe that I will recover. This is one of God’s blessings because there is a foundation willing to help me. Once I recover, I will be able to help many more people.”
