Maurine is a 36-year-old widowed mother of two children. In 2022, she experienced a sudden and unexpected change that would alter her life. Without warning, she lost the ability to hear. At first, Maurine struggled to understand what was happening. Simple conversations became difficult, and communicating with her children was no longer easy. She could not hear when they spoke to her, and responding to their needs became increasingly challenging. In December 2022, she went to AIC Kijabe Hospital for a medical review. After assessment, the doctors recommended hearing aids to help her regain the ability to hear and communicate. A well-wisher paid for one hearing aid, which made communication easier, including with her children. Sadly, in 2025, the hearing aid stopped working. Gradually, Maurine began withdrawing from those close to her. She works as a house help, but her hearing loss also began to affect her ability to earn a living. In January this year, she returned to the hospital, where she was advised to obtain new hearing aids, but the cost was far beyond what she could afford. Still hoping for a solution, she returned to hospital in August, hoping she would find help. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping her find treatment. On Sept 9th, Maurine will be fitted with hearing aids. For Maurine, this would mean much more than the ability to hear sounds again. It would mean being able to communicate with her children. It would mean understanding her employer, and it would mean reconnecting with family and friends, regaining her confidence, and no longer living in isolation. Now, Maurine needs help to fund this $1,171 procedure. She says: “I wish to hear again, so I can communicate more confidently with my family and friends."

Kreshzna is a 12-year-old girl from the Philippines. She is in the sixth grade, loves studying, and excels in class. She enjoys drawing and is eagerly involved in school. Her father works as a carwash attendant and is the sole breadwinner of the family. Her mother had to stop working to care for her Kreshzna full time. Kreshzna was born with a congenital condition in the lower digestive tract, which leads to a partial or complete intestinal blockage. She needs to undergo a series of procedures to address her condition. Fortunately, on September 12th, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines, will help Kreshzna undergo corrective surgery. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and WSFP is raising $1,123 to cover the remaining cost of Kreshzna's procedure and care. "We are deeply grateful for Kreshzna's surgery. This helps a lot with our financial burden, and it gives our daughter a chance to receive the treatment we have been waiting for since she was an infant," Kreshzna's family shared.

Almaz is a 28-year-old woman from Ethiopia. She is a homemaker and cares for her three children. Her husband is a daily laborer. Three months ago, she noticed a swelling on her leg, just right above her knee. It started to cause her pain and prevented her from doing her daily tasks. Almaz traveled to our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, to receive treatment. On July 1st, surgeons will perform an excisional biopsy to remove the mass. Now, Almaz needs help to raise $750 to fund this procedure. Almaz shared, "I hope to finally move without the constant pain and stiffness that have kept me on the sidelines for the past three months. I hope I can stand, walk, and take care of my three children with ease."
