Chamroeun is a 54-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. He is married and has four children, all of whom are married and live nearby. His wife also works as a rice farmer, and their children work various jobs in local minimarts and selling vegetables in the market to help support the family. In his free time, Chamroeun enjoys planting vegetables around his home that the family can use for cooking or selling in the market.
Four months ago, Chamroeun was in a motorbike accident that caused paralysis in his arm. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. He has difficulty moving his left arm and hand and sometimes experiences pain. He also has trouble sleeping and is unable to be productive in the rice fields compared to before the accident.
Chamroeun traveled to our medical partner’s care center, Kien Khleang National Rehabilitation Centre, to receive treatment. This is the only center in the whole country where this treatment is available. On July 10th, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery with the help of our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. The treatment will help improve movement in his arm and hand and reduce pain, allowing him to carry out his work and daily activities more easily. His family can contribute $100, but needs help to raise $637 to fund his procedure and care.
Chamroeun shared, “I hope I can move my hand and lift my arm so I can do more work and help my family.”
