Landese is a 37-year-old mother of two from Haiti. She lives with her husband and their two young boys in a neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. Landese is a homemaker and enjoys going to church and playing games with her children in her free time. Landese has a cardiac condition called rheumatic mitral regurgitation. One of the four valves of her heart was damaged by an infection she suffered earlier in life, and it can no longer open and shut properly to pump blood through her heart and body. This leads to heart failure and leaves her feeling weak and fatigued. Landese needs to fly to the Dominican Republic to receive treatment. On August 4th, she will undergo heart surgery, during which surgeons will either repair her damaged valve or, if unable to accomplish this, they will remove it and implant an artificial replacement. Another organization, Haitian Hearts Foundation, is contributing $12,000 to pay for the surgery. Landese's family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is requesting $1,500 to cover labs, medications, and check-up and follow-up appointments. This cost also covers securing travel documents for the family and travel costs for the social workers from our medical partner who will accompany Landese's family overseas. Landese said, "I am so glad to be able to have this surgery so I can be healthy and strong for my children!"

Eyob is a 10-year-old boy who lives with his parents and two younger sisters in Ethiopia. His father works with an electric company, while his mother is a home maker. For the past four years, Eyob has been experiencing severe tonsillitis which has caused extreme throat pain, loss of appetite, high fever, trouble swallowing, and breathing difficulties. This has affected his sleep and rest, and he often feels disappointed when he's unable to help his sisters with their homework or when they seek his assistance. When he was younger, his parents tried treating him with traditional remedies, hoping he would get better, but the condition persisted. Eyob was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is requesting $700 to fund a tonsillectomy for Eyob, which is scheduled to take place on August 10th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils, hopefully relieving Eyob of his symptoms and helping him live more comfortably. His parents say: "We hope that our son can go back to being a happy, energetic boy, so he can go to school without interruptions, and play with his sisters, like other children."

Franklin is a 13-year-old student from Haiti. He lives in a rural agricultural area with his parents, who are both farmers, and six older siblings. He enjoys going to school and playing soccer. On March 23rd, he will undergo surgery, during which surgeons will attempt to repair his damaged valve; if they are unable to do so, they will remove it instead and implant an artificial replacement. While another charity, Mitral Foundation, is funding Franklin's surgery, his family will also need help with the costs associated with his surgical preparations. It will also support securing travel documents for the family and paying travel costs for the social workers who will accompany Franklin's family overseas.
