Rose, a 50-year-old mother of two from Kenya, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), explains that Rose first noticed a lump on her right breast in July. However, she could not afford to go to a hospital to get the lump examined. When her symptoms persisted, Rose eventually received a biopsy and tested positively for cancer.
Due to her condition, Rose finds herself in constant discomfort and unable to perform her everyday activities. If untreated, Rose is at risk of the cancer spreading to other parts of her body.
Fortunately, Rose’s cancer is localized and can be removed with a mastectomy. For $740, Rose will receive this operation and have the cancerous breast tissue completely removed. While at the hospital, Rose will receive diagnostic tests, medication, and six days of hospital care.
AMHF states, “We expect a mastectomy will reduce chances of cancer spreading to other parts of her body.”
After months of worrying, this operation will provide Rose with long-term peace of mind. Once recovered, Rose will be healthy and able to enjoy her hobbies–including reading–without having to worry about her cancer returning in the future.
