Chhorn is a 60-year-old grandfather from Cambodia. He lives with his wife, three daughters, one son-in-law, and an eight-year-old granddaughter in Battambang province, near the border with Thailand. His daughters are high school teachers, and his wife stays at home to look after the house and their granddaughter. His son-in-law works at a motorbike repair shop. Chhorn is a retired teacher, and now enjoys gardening, and growing vegetables and fruits.
One month ago, Chhorn noticed a mass below his left earlobe. He went to an emergency clinic in Battambang, where they removed a small sample of tissue from the mass. The diagnosis was a pleomorphic adenoma, a type of non-cancerous tumor that usually forms in the salivary glands, located near the ear. Although the mass is benign, it has the potential to become cancerous if left untreated.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), is helping Chhorn receive treatment. On March 13th, surgeons will remove the mass. Chhorn can contribute $100 but needs help to raise $173 to fund his procedure.
Chhorn said, “I want to have that mass removed, so I will no longer worry about it and my family will feel better.”
