Lembetsani is from a village in Malawi’s Central Region, where he lives with his wife, near their two children and two grandchildren. He works as a carpenter to support his family, and collects firewood daily to cook with. In his free time, he goes to the soccer field near his house and watches games.
For the past two years, Lembetsani has been experiencing pain and swelling due to an inguinal hernia. A hernia occurs when an organ protrudes through the wall of the cavity containing it. Hernias can caused pain and, if not treated, lead to strangulation of the affected organs.
Because of his hernia, Lembetsani has been unable to work or participate in other activities. For $327, he’ll receive surgery to repair the hernia, alleviating his symptoms.
Lembetsani and his family are looking forward to the opportunity for him to receive surgery to repair the hernia. He is excited to return home and get back to his job and his life.
