Fatuma is a 60-year-old woman from Yumbe District in Uganda. She is a farmer, while her husband repairs bicycles for a living. The couple has three children.
About three years ago, Fatuma started experiencing pain in her lower abdomen and back; and paralysis on her legs. At the health center, she was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia, which is a tissue bulge that occurs due to a weak spot in the abdominal wall. She was unable to meet the cost for surgery and was given painkillers, which only helped for some time.
Presently, the painful symptoms have affected her mobility, and daily activities like cooking, washing, fetching water, and farming have become extremely challenging. Recently, Fatuma heard about the surgical support program from a community leader and decided to seek care.
Our medical partner, Hope Health Action, is requesting $605 to fund Fatuma’s surgery, which is scheduled for September 7th. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live a healthier life.
Fatuma says, “I would like to thank HHA and the donors for the support. May you continue supporting others like me. I hope to resume my daily activities after surgery.”
