“Thea developed a cataract in each eye four years ago,” our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), tells us. “This causes her to be partially blind and experience tearing and irritation. She can’t see everything clearly, do work well, or go anywhere outside.”

Thea underwent vision-restoring cataract surgery.
Thea had one of her cataracts removed in a short procedure, during which her clouded lens was taken out and replaced with a clear synthetic implant. Though she was scheduled to have cataracts removed from both eyes, she has yet to return to receive her second surgery.
For some patients, it can take some time to return for follow-up care due to a number of reasons. Patients often live far away, or have important family matters that keep them from coming back to the clinic. Whenever Thea returns, the surgery to remove the other cataract will be free.
