Afras is a small-scale farmer from Uganda. She is the fifth-born child out of seven. After completing primary school in grade six, she went to a neighbor’s tailoring shop and acquired some skills in tailoring, but due to a lack of capital to buy a sewing machine, she never practiced her profession.
In 2021, Afras married her husband, who has some plumbing skills but still needs a certificate. Afras, together with her husband, stay in a rental house, which is a single room. Their small land was given to them by a friend, and they live a life of hustling with no regular income to support their family. Due to a fresh scar, she was restricted from doing heavy activities, and this has contributed to their financial challenges. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family.
She is currently expecting a new baby. Her doctors recommend that she deliver via a C-section because of a previous scar. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Afras undergo a C-Section on February 29. This procedure will cost $207, and Afras needs your support.
Afras says, ‘’After surgery, I will be able to continue with farming, and if I earn money, I plan to buy a sewing machine.’’
