Davann is a 29-year-old man living in Kampong Speu province, Cambodia. His wife works in a bank in their village. Before his accident, Davann worked as a credit officer in the same bank and played soccer with friends. Now he stays home.
In August 2024, Davonn was involved in a traffic collision. He broke both bones in his left arm and lost consciousness for nearly a week. A local hospital performed an open reduction internal fixation to repair his fractures. He has been diagnosed with a brachial plexus injury on his left side. The brachial plexus is a nerve network that transmits signals from the spine to the shoulder, arm, and hand. Injuries to this nerve network can result in loss of function and sensation. After nine months, he still has weakness in his left arm; he cannot bend his left elbow or lift his shoulder, which means he can no longer work. He relies solely on his right arm for tasks like dressing and eating because of the weakness in his left arm.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is helping Davann receive treatment. On June 3rd, he will undergo a brachial plexus repair surgery. After recovery and rehabilitation, he hopes to have movement and gain strength in his arm. Davann can contribute $100 to his care, but needs help to raise $637 more to fund his procedure.
Davan is hopeful and shared, “I hope I can use my arm again and work, so my wife does not have to support me.”
