Sina is a 34-year-old man from Cambodia. He lives with his parents and his wife. Both Sina and his wife work as electricians, specializing in repairing fans and electric cookers. In his free time, Sina enjoys watching soccer on his phone. At around the age of 10, he developed a septic hip and knee infection on his right side, which was treated at a public hospital. Unfortunately, over time, he developed a knee flexion contracture. Currently, he is unable to walk without support or assistance. His right leg is significantly shorter, and the muscles have weakened and decreased in size due to lack of physical activity and nerve damage. Because Sina's condition is difficult to treat, he has been referred to the doctors at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre. On July 9th, Sina will undergo an osteotomy, a procedure where the bone near the knee joint is cut and reshaped to correct alignment issues or deformities. Sina and his family are able to contribute $100 but need help to raise $369 more to fund the procedure, medicines, and physiotherapy costs. Sina shared, "I hope to walk and sit comfortably, so I can return to work and help support my family."

Elvis is a 19-year-old young man from Kenya. He is the third-born in a family of four children. Originally from Kakamega county, he moved to Kiambu County with his two brothers in search of jobs to support their family. Currently, they work as casual laborers at construction sites. Elvis was thriving at work until just three weeks ago, when he was involved in a devastating traffic accident. After getting out of a vehicle, he accidentally fell, and the same vehicle ran over his hand. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors discovered that he had sustained fractures in his arm. Although he was fitted with a plaster cast, the bones did not heal as hoped, leading him to seek help at our medical partner's care center, Nazareth Hospital. Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Elvis receive treatment. On August 22nd, he will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). If left untreated, Elvis's arm may develop complications such as malunion and become misshapen. Now, his family needs help to fund this $1,048 procedure. Elvis says, “Since my hand was injured, I have been unable to care for my needs because I cannot work with an injured arm. I hope to receive assistance to pay for my surgery, as it's the only solution. After the surgery, I hope to be able to work again and get back on my feet.”

Chanthoeun is a 40-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She lives with six family members, including her 90-year-old grandmother, husband, two children, and an older brother. Her husband is a police officer, and her older brother is a rice farmer. Her two daughters attend a nearby high school. At home, Chanthoeun enjoys spending time with her children and helping them with their homework. In June 2023, Chanthoeun was in a road traffic accident and sustained multiple fractures to her left arm. Following the accident, she underwent surgery where doctors implanted hardware to repair the fractures. Now, the hardware is causing her pain and restricts the movement of her left wrist. She needs to have the hardware removed. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On July 26th, Chanthoeun will undergo a hardware removal procedure that will improve overall function and reduce the pain in her forearm. Chanthoeun is able to contribute $100 but needs $204 more to fund the procedure. Chanthoeun hopes to be able to lift and move her forearm easily when she returns home, which will make it easier to work and take care of her family at home.
